The Folkwang University of the Arts
The Folkwang University of the Arts is the central training centre, and the only one in North-Rhine Westphalia, for music, theatre, dance, design and academia. It has been bringing various disciplines together under one roof since 1927 – based on the Folkwang idea of an interdisciplinary co-operation between the arts. This original training format has acted as a beacon at an international level.
Studying at Folkwang means studying in a unique setting: With its campuses and event venues in Essen, Bochum, Duisburg and Dortmund, the Folkwang University of the Arts is right amongst it all and firmly rooted in the Ruhr metropolis.
Its some 1,600 students and 420 teachers come from virtually all corners of the globe. The university currently offers over forty courses with the internationally recognised degrees of Bachelor, Masters and Artist Diploma, as well as the Folkwang Concert Study Course of Excellence. The Institute for Pop Music is one of currently six institutes at the Folkwang University of the Arts.
The over 400 events that take place every year are highly regarded in the cultural landscape, and are held not only on the university’s own seven stages, but also in co-operation with renowned concert halls, theatres, museums, churches, and cultural and educational organisations. This networking puts Folkwang students from all disciplines in contact with the realities of professional life – right from their very first day of study.
